As the Interim National Security Strategy makes clear, "China...is the only competitor potentially capable of combining its economic, diplomatic, military, and technological power to mount a sustained challenge to a stable and open international system." In order to push back, the United States must "strengthen and stand behind our allies, work with like-minded partners, and pool our collective strength to advance shared interests and deter common threats." But our resources are not infinite. For this reason, the United States and our partners must be able to identify the most efficient allocation of our funding, time, and energy possible. In this project, VSFS students will work with the Regional China Officers (RCO) to build a global model identifying which countries represent the most significant opportunities for pushing back on malign activities from countries like the PRC. After first creating a prioritization model considering factors such as the importance of each country to U.S. interests and its susceptibility to malign PRC influence, students will then identify open source databases to create a dynamic application capable of providing real-time outputs for use by State Department officers. | Government | Fall 2021 | ||||
