Alpha Battery 1-108th Field Artillery Regiment | Prime Mover Driver | SRA | IAM | My National Guard Unit was activated this past summer to participate in pre-deployment training at Fort Irwin, National Training Center. This training simulated a combat deployment and as a field artillery battery, we participated in simulated maneuver warfare. My role as my section chief's driver was to handle some of his communications with the rest of the battery, handle the battle force tracker, which was rated secret, and keep track of the section's key sensitive items during our time in the field. I also had to make many quick risk assessments such as where to place the howitzer after a long maneuvers and how to react to enemy contact. Johnson Controls | Electronic Systems Installer | IST | ISDEV | Completed and commissioned many access control projects with Johnson Controls for commercial sites that included aspects such as: Data migration – Worked with customer’s IT team to successfully and securely export site’s existing database from legacy equipment (through SQL exports or .CSV file creation), then import data into newly created access control server database (physical or Virtual Machine). Database troubleshooting – Work with customer’s Database Administrator (if available) to script thorough SQL queries to select proper data for exports. Low voltage wiring – Install, wire, troubleshoot, and identify problems with access control equipment. Door locking hardware integration (electric strike, mortise locks, IP locks, maglocks) 3rd party software integrations – Install, configure, and troubleshoot software integration packages for primary access control software. Some integration installations require granular knowledge of how user credentials are converted to binary and how to manipulate that process to aid in troubleshooting and proper system performance. Provide Emergency Customer Service – Respond to customer sites to diagnose issues in challenging environments, determine what information being provided is relevant to the problem at hand, use experience and judgment to evaluate best approach to solving problem, thoroughly test ideas and fixes, and make recommendations to customers. System design – Aid Johnson Control salesmen and customers in project walkthroughs on which available hardware and software systems would work best for given scenario, what computing/network resources would be required, what site resources would be necessary for a successful deployment, and ultimately provide the best plan to assure a project satisfies all expectations. Customer Involvement – Work with clients to provide information and assistance, understand client needs, and express technical information effectively through clear oral presentations to a wide and diverse audience. Software deployments – Deployed server software and client software to designated personnel, integrated software with customer’s Active Directory system if applicable, troubleshot software installations if/when Microsoft Windows Updates caused issues, and worked with customer IT department to properly configure firewalls to allow successful communication between server and client software. Also completed and commissioned many CCTV systems for commercial sites that included aspects such as: Network topography design – Work with site IT department to calculate CCTV system’s required resources and then design traffic paths and properly configure equipment (i.e. Cisco switches) to handle bandwidth needed by system. Network security design – Work with site IT department to segment network traffic through use of firewalls and VLANs to increase network security to industry standards. Product IP addressing – Design logical IP schemes for cameras and equipment to aid in servicing and troubleshooting in future. Active Directory integrations – Connect CCTV software to site’s Active Directory system (if applicable) to allow Single-Sign On authentication for users. Camera setup based on scene – Assess customer requirements and configure cameras to provide optimal quality and recording length while not exceeding limitations of site’s network and recording equipment. Assessing and resolving hardware and software interoperation with focus on meeting all relevant cyber standards. |
